When Indians Themselves are Unaware of their Heritage, How to Expect Others to Know about it? : Chinese Ex-Professor says Ancient India is Underrated

A Chinese ex-professor talks about ancient India and its achievements, says Indians themselves don’t know about it

A Chinese Ex-Professor from the University of Toronto was analyzing ancient India and was shocked by the revelations. He said,

“Indians have a vague understanding of Chinese history but they have no idea about Indian history. Most of them know that the Middle Kingdom is how China referred to herself but how many people know about Bharat? How many know about even the Guptas? People know that China was famous for ceramics and tea but how many people know about ancient India’s achievement in metallurgy?”

“This is partly due to the lackluster historical records that ancient Indians kept and also partly due to modern Indian’s tendency to look down upon their ancient heritage and view western ideas and ideals as superior,”

he continued to say.

In his analysis, the ex-professor said that though the finding that the earth is spherical is credited to the Greek philosopher Aristotle, very few people know that a man from ancient India recognized it even before Aristotle during the 8th-9th century BCE. Yajnavalkya was the first to tell that the earth is round and he was the one to propose the heliocentric system of the planets first. He also calculated the period of one year as 365.24675 days.

Moving on, he said that the whole world is aware of Kung Fu, but no one knows that the founder of this martial art was a prince of the Pallava dynasty from Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu who visited China during the 5th century CE. That prince was known as Bodhidharma.

The Chinese man in a statement was upset and said,

“If Indians themselves are unaware of their heritage, why they expect that someone else will know about their history and achievement?”

“The achievements of ancient Indians are lost in anonymity. The ancestors of India came up with many ways to ease the basic life of a common man. These inventions may seem primitive today, but we can’t ignore the fact that these were revolutionary achievements during their era,”

he said.

The ex-professor then talked about the Indus Valley Civilization and said that it is well-known for the broad and the sanitized drainage systems. But how many of the Indians know that it was the ancient Indians from Indus Valley Civilization who first invented a flush toilet? Also, we all use rulers today, but how many of you know that it was Indus Valley Civilization to first invent the rulers? Apart from this who knows that the people of this civilization were the first to invent buttons and weave the dresses made of cotton first?

Talking ahead, he also revealed that the ancient Indians were the first to come up with the weighing scales that were highly used for trading. The Archaeologists have found weighs and scales from the excavation sites of Harappa, Mohenjodaro, Lothal, etc.

It was the people from ancient India who presented the world with Yoga, the concept of zero, and atomic theory. It was they who first carried out different surgeries like plastic surgery and cataract surgery. People across the world hardly knows about Charak, the great specialist in medicine from ancient India, who was the first physician to find the problems and medicinal treaties in fields like physiology, embryology, digestion, sexual disease, immunity, etc.

He continued to reveal more things about ancient India but in the end, he said,

“Still think, that ancient India is overrated?” “Ancient India was a hub of culture and technology and the absolute capital of world spirituality. I could talk about India for hours. India is many things but OVERRATED is definitely not one of them.”
