9-year-old Basil Okpara Jr. is coming from the suburb of Nigeria’s commercial center, Lagos, and has generated more than 30 mobile games till now.

At the age of 9, most of the kids focus on playing games. But Basil Okpara Jr.’s not just focused on playing games but he also focused on developing them. He is coming from the suburb of Nigeria’s commercial center, Lagos, and loves playing games a lot.

Currently, he is working on developing a hide and seek game using a free programming application called Scratch 2. The app is used by users to create games, animations, and stories online or offline. Using this app he has already generated more than 30 mobile games.

In the current game he is developing, the players have to find a bat that is hiding. The players will get points every time they will catch the bat when it emerges from its hiding place.

The kid, during an interview, said that he learned from a boot camp about how to build games. And now he develops games whenever he gets bored.

It was in March when his father made him join a 5-day boot camp for children aged 5 to 15. The camp was arranged by Codefest International to give kids like Basil access to developing technologies like robotics and virtual reality.

When his father was interviewed, Basil Okpara Sr. said that Basil used to play a lot of games on mobile. Most of the time he used to play candy crush and temple run, his father said. His father also bought him a tablet, when he was 4 because he always used to grab their phones to play games.

One day Basil’s father got angry and scolded him for spending time playing games. At that time he was 7 and after his father scolded him he started to develop games.

“There was this day he was on the tablet, as usual, he was so carried away with the game he was playing that I got upset with him,”

his father said.

“Out of annoyance, I said to him, ‘you are always playing games, can’t you think about building your own games so others can play yours too?’. I was angry when I said it, and I did not know he took it seriously,”

he continued.

Since then he started showing interest in building games. He forced his parents to buy him a laptop and register him to learn the basics of building games.

In his future, Basil Jr. wants to be a scientist. All his games are named on what they are about.

One of his games, ‘Mosquito mash’ is also available on the Google play store for you to enjoy.
